GPS at Okanagan Fertilizer
Our
spreader truck is now equipped with a Global Positioning System
(GPS), which offers unparalleled accuracy and speed in spreading.
The GPS is in continual communication with up to eight satellites
and determines the truck's position when spreading. It indicates
the beginning and end of each forty foot swath. Moreover, it is
accurate to within twelve inches on either side.
One of the best features of the GPS system is its ability to
"remember" exactly where the truck runs out of fertilizer
in a field. With the push of a button, the truck can leave the
field, fill up with fertilizer, and be notified by the system
exactly where to start spreading again.
In 1999, weather hindered our custom spreading work in the Spring.
On more than one occasion, we were spreading in complete darkness,
guided only by the GPS system.

Our trucks proudly use Trimble AgGPS, you can visit their
site here.
